83mb file takes a lot of time to upload…

The upload speed depends on your internet connection. Usually uploads are much slower than downloads.
I just sent a zip file. But not sure if the upload went ok.

No, it looks like the feature is broken. Please upload to Picassa and share album or send the files using one of the free services. Picassa is good because it allows album to be downloaded in full size.
